Commission Payments & Tax Questions

What method do you use to pay Agents?
We pay our Australian Agents through bank transfer, and our international Agents through PayPal. You can also choose to get paid by web credits.

Once you reach the minimum commission level ($50 for Australian Agents) you'll be able to automatically withdraw your commissions at any time of the month, without affecting your sales bonuses. The system will send an alert to the Bright Star Kids accounts team, who will then transfer your payment into your account in approximately  2 - 4 working days. Web credit requests should happen automatically.

Do I have to meet sales targets?
No, we don't have any sales targets, so you set the pace. We do have a minimum of $50AUD that you need to earn before any commissions can be paid. If you don't meet this minimum amount each month, don't worry, as it will be carried over to the following months until you earn this amount. This is perfect for busy mums who want to fit in work around their kids.

Must I declare the commission I get for tax purposes?
Yes, when it comes to tax time simply take all your commission invoices to your accountant. Your commission will be offset against any expenses that you’ve made, so you may end up paying very little tax. Talk to a tax advisor for more detailed information and to help you in reducing your tax bill.

How much paperwork is involved during the year and at peak times especially at the end of the financial year?
We try to keep our system as streamlined as possible to avoid our Agents having to keep lots of paperwork. All of your sales will be kept on your Agents Area, so you can refer to them whenever you need them. When you reach over $50 in commissions, you will get a tax invoice sent from Bright Star Kids. You will need to keep these invoices, along with any receipts for business expenses. If you need help retrieving any invoice, please contact the Agents team.

Why do I need to register for an ABN?
You'll only need an ABN if you are an Australian agent. As you are a consultant for BSK, and do not actually work for the company itself, you will require an ABN in order to sell our products as what you are doing is classed as a business not a hobby. It’s very easy and free to do. Ask us for a step-by-step guide before you apply to make it even easier.

With the ABN, does this mean I am required to complete a BAS form or register for GST?
No, you do not need to register for GST, as this only matters if you earn over $75k a year (this figure varies on a yearly basis, consult the ATO website for more information). Most likely you won’t be earning this amount and therefore won’t need to register for GST or complete a BAS form every quarter.
