Part 2 – Hearing the sounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How often would you ask your child \u201cWhat does your name start with?\u201d Well this could be your child\u2019s first opportunity to learn the sounds made by the letters of the alphabet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many parents wonder \u2013 should I teach the capital letters or lower case letters first? (And there are many different schools of thought on this matter\u2026). However, I believe they can be successfully taught together \u2013 as it\u2019s very hard to completely shelter your child from one or the other. Letters are all around us! So I simply teach my children and students, \u201cThis is the letter A, it makes the a, a, a, sound\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once your child has mastered the letters of the alphabet, they naturally begin to identify words and objects that begin with each letter and this is a really crucial step in their journey to learn to read, spell and write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
